Story by: Lee 'Huck' Edwards This trip had been planned for
months in advance. There were to be 6 of us H-Town riders to go. At the last
minute 2 backed out. So, Kelly Baldwin (Chainlinkz) ,Elias Odeh (Cog
Clothing), Jesse (son of Huck) Edwards, and myself (Huck a.k.a. Huck
Industries), went to represent Houston. We left out on the Friday before
hoping to get there in time to ride. After 16 hours crammed in my van, we
were just happy with locating the spot and finding a room. Which was less
than 5 minutes from the jam location.
After a good nights rest and breakfast we got to the spot a good ½ hour
early. Brian Huffman was already there jamming the only dry spot in the
entire parking lot. Which wasn't even parking lot, but an over-sized
sidewalk. More people began to show up the closer it got to 11a.m., which
was when the jam was scheduled to begin. The gray sky brought mist for about
20 minutes then like something out the X-Files Kent Pearson showed up and
instantly brought sunshine. Who'd knew Kent had mother nature in a headlock.
The likes of over 80 riders made it to the jam, to represent New Jersey,
California, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Canada
and more. Some of the pros in mention included Aaron Frost, Aaron Behnke,
Gabe Kadmiri, Brian Huffman, Terry Adams, Mickey Gaidos, Neston Favelo,
Keith King, and Adam Pergentile. If you're pro and I didn't mention you, or
you're not and I did mention you , then shoot me.
As for highlights, where do I begin? Oh, how about a need to be pro by the
name of Steven Hearns, reppin Alabama. This kid can crank blenders faster
than any rider I can think of. At one point, we were waiting for sparks to
start flying and him disappear. In the midst of what seemed to be a pro only
jam circle, about midday, Hearns rolls out there and spun himself into
possession of a brand new pair of tires. Courtesy of Kent himself. Others
highlights included a sweet lime green, nostalgiac to say the least, King
Freestyler frame set sported by Keith King. Dude just seeing that ride made
me feel like I was in 1986 all over again. He had an Eastern Frame with a
1986 Haro Freestyler paint job and sticker set. Sweeeet! The group picture
with everyone throwing up Worldwide gang signs was pretty impressive, too.
Props to Bobby Carter for making it probably the furthest for this event. |

Memorable moves included a
series of new switches and flips from Terry, (Karl Kruiser to 360 barflip
with a 180 body variable to half packer on the left). Mickey's mad fast
opposite-sided tea kettles inside no-handed and turbined, kept us all
wondering where he was going next. Brian Chapman's kick flip hikers were
definitely gaining respect. And after the jam, towards then end of the night
Eugene Collins unleashed a kickflip crackpacker. Crazy! Expect a lot of new
original style moves from Eugene.
Oh, as much as Kelly would like me to forget, there was a smith decade
stall contest prior to the jam. I didn't witness this event in it's entirety
but I can tell you that some of the people out there looked like they were
being held up by strings. The winner I heard was up there for like a 20
count. Our own Kelly Baldwin was pulling bar backwards rolling smiths and
got mad props for 'em. But Kelly, it was a brake necessary comp. Sorry bro.
We all know you can stall those suckas. Until next year, which we'll
definitely be at, Peace.
Thanks again to Kent Pearson and the ATL/Athens crew for a tight event.
Expect to see coverage of the 2005 Athens Final Exam Jam in the upcoming 20
Inch Productions release. Kent George was there in full effect recording for
a 2 hour freestyle anthology/movie to be released at an undisclosed date.
Word! We can't wait. Thanks Kent for your patience on that freakin' link of
me you got. Cool! Lee 'Huck' Edwards
